Million Mile Beach Clean for Surfers Against Sewage
We call it Pitlochry Beach. It’s the bank of the River Tummel near to Pitlochry dam. There is a little sandy beach. Often people camp here overnight and have picnics so we were expecting it to not be very clean.

It looked clean but it was deceptive. On the shoreline, mostly in the vegetation, we found lots of wine and beer bottles, a pizza box, wrappers and various plastic tubs and containers.
Horrifyingly given the beautiful setting, we found discarded pants and a used syringe. Luckily one of our beach cleaners today was a nurse who safely picked up the syringe and disposed of it.
We usually lay out the found rubbish on the beach in a pattern, but with a lot of broken glass in the bag, we didn’t do that. We took it all to the Pitlochry recycling centre.
